About Lismore and it's Environs
'Some of the most beautiful rich country ever seen.'

'We came to Lismore... parks and rocks covered with the grandest foliage, rich, handsome seats of gentlemen in the midst
of fair lawns and beautiful bright plantations and shrubberies, the prettiest I have seen in or out of Ireland.'
Quotes from Thackeray during his visit to Waterford & Cork.
West Waterford and East Cork are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful areas in all of Ireland, and Lismore is the
jewel in its crown.
Founded in 636 by St. Carthage, Lismore, on the banks of the River Blackwater, became an historic seat of learning for
many Kings and Saints and developed a rich architectural splendour and heritage.
Lismore Castle, birthplace of the celebrated scientist Robert Boyle, and once home to Sir Walter Raleigh and the dancing feet of Fred Astaire, is now the Irish Residence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and their family.
Apart from its historic importance and natural beauty, Lismore enjoys excellent services and facilities including the new Blackwater Community School, the magnificent Millennium Park, excellent shops, restaurants, cafes & bars, sports facilities and outstanding entertainment and cultural activities for young and old.
The area is ideal for commuting as it enjoys excellent access to Cork City (39miles), European Capital of Culture in 2005 and Waterford City (45 miles), home of the world-famous Waterford Crystal.
Cork International Airport, Waterford Airport, and Shannon Airport (75 Miles) provide excellent links across the world and the seaports of Cork, Rosslare (95 Miles) and Dun Laoghaire (120 Miles) provide connections to France and the United Kingdom.
Also close by are the blue-flag beaches of Ardmore and Clonea and the beautiful mountain regions of the Knockmealdown and Nire Valley (perfect for hill-walking and trekking).
Numerous award-winning restaurants are all within a short drive including The Glencairn Inn, The Tannery, Ballymaloe House, Richmond House and Hanora's Cottage.
